OBITUARY
Albert L. Thompson was a native of Memphis, Tennessee, son of the late Dr. Albert Leroy and Emma Plummer Thompson. He received his education in the city schools of Memphis, Knoxville College, Tennessee A. and I. State University in Nashville, Tennessee, and received the Bachelor of Science Degree from LeMoyne College in Memphis. For twenty years, he taught housing at the Atlanta University School of Social Work. He held an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities from Monrovia College, Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa).
AI Thompson was engaged in the field of housing in various official capacities since 1940. At the time of his death he was Assistant Regional Administrator for Equal Opportunity, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Atlanta, Georgia.
Awards to this outstanding man included: Distinguished Service Award" by the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc.; Award from the Frontiers of America, Inc., Tampa, Florida; "Citizen of the Year Award" presented by the Empire Real Estate Board, Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he served as: Past President and Member, Board of Directors, Braves "400" Club; Member, Board of Directors, Ralph C. Robinson Boys' Club; Member, Board of Directors, Atlanta Hawks Boosters Club, Member, Sports Committee, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; Member, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; President, 100 % Wrong Club; Member, Atlanta Association of Federal Executives; Member Resurgens Atlanta; Vice President and Member, Board of Directors, Community Foundation, Inc.; Former Vice President, Extra Point Club, Inc.; Treasurer, Atlanta Flames Fan Club.
Perhaps one of the achievements in a sports-related field for which he was best known and achieved outstanding success, was the famous and exciting Annual Banquet of the 100% Wrong Club which he and his fellow club members promoted.
Dr. Thompson was married to Evarie Stuart Thompson, daughter of the late M. S Stuart, Vice President of the Universal Life Insurance Company of Memphis, Tennessee. Other survivors are Alta Lynne Thompson, daughter, Media Specialist, The Coca-Cola Company; Emarie Joi Thompson, daughter, Assistant State Director, The McGovern Campaign; Albert Leroy Thompson, Jr., Counsel, Herman J. Russell Company; Carole White Thompson, daughter-in-law; Michael Stuart Thompson, son.
