~ ~ was born July 31, 1924 ~Darlington, South Carolina
to the late Lucius and Cora Johnson Mayes. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday, November 13, 2003.
She was educated at the Darlington County Sdlool System. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, was baptized and became a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to the late Williard Poole in 1955.
After moving to Mt. Vernon, New York, she met and was united in marriage to the late George Thomas In 1966 and became mother to Jacqueline and the late Vincent Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Edna Carter, Eloise Kirven and brother Willie Mayes. She was employed as a domestic worker 30 years for the Zacharia Family (Don, Olristlna, Jeffrey, Karen, Jenny and Kirsten) in Scarsdale, New York. She retired and later moved to Lindenwold. NJ.
Louise was a loving person who gave unselfishly and was the life of all
gatherings. She always had time for you whether you were family or friend. Her best gifts and favorite hobbies were entertai'llng, cooking, home decorating, sewing, gardening and impartilg words of wisdom which she gained over the span of her 79 years. She was affectionately called "BIG LOU" by some of her nieces and nephews because when she spoke, everyone listened.
Those who shared the joys and pains of life with her and now cherish her memory are: a special companion, James McCall of Bronx, NY; the Zachariah Family of Scarsdale, NY; a cherish friend, Mary Gregg of Winston Salem, NC; a datJg,ter, Jacqueline Thomas-Smith of West Palm Beach, FL; a daughterin-law, Naomi Thomas of New Rochelle, NY; one brother-In-law, Wilson Kiven of Atco, NJ; seven !7andchildren, thiteen great granddllldren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Louise's favorite Bible saiptures: Psalm 71:5,6:16-18 For you are my hope, 0 Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. By you I have been upheld from my birth; .You are He who took me out of my mother's womb. My praise shall be continually of You...Now also, when I am old and gray-headed, 0 God, do not forsake me, lkltil I declare YOLr strength to this generation; Yoc.r power to everyone who Is to come.
