~~;r;:., A Tribute To George Watson Thomas, Sr.
1) "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose .'

under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die;

~

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted"

Ecclesiastes 3 .

A TIME TO BE BORN: George Watson Thomas, Sr., was born on May 15, 1915 to Alberta and Bill Thomas. He was the fourth son born to that union.
I A TIME TO PLANT: He confessed Christ at an early age in the First St. Siloam Church and he continued his blessed spiritual life at Second St. Siloam until his
I departing. Dea. Thomas was faithful to his church. He served in every capacity; were he was needed.
I A TIME TO LEARN: He attended Oak Grove School until his father passed when he was ten. Responsibility became a part ofhis life and created in him a serious work ethic. Through it all, his faith in God; thriftiness, and working together made the
I family able to strive on. His career spanned over 60 years at the TR. Miller Mill Company in Brewton.
A TIME TO LOVE: George married Annie B. Lewis and to that union five children were born; Peggy, James, George, Jr., Rebecca and Bernard.
A TIME TO DIE: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have
I faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you so. I go and prepare a place for you and ifI go andprepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself; so that where I am, there
I you may be also. Realizing that God's Grace is sufficient, Deacon Thomas received his final call to come home knowing that he had come this far by Faith, Grace, and Mercy. Surrounded with his family, he peacefully passed into eternal rest...
I A TIME FOR DEATH: He leaves to rejoice and celebrate the memories ofhis life; his faithful wife, Annie B. Sons, James Walter (Val) San Diego, California; Bernard (Brenda) Brewton, Alabama. Son-in-law, Earl Hicks, New York. Sister-in-laws, Mabel Thomas and Lillie Dove both ofBrewton. Brother-in-law, Joe Lewis (Mary). Grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, relatives andfriends.
He was preceded in death by: Six siblings and three children: Peggy, George, Jr., and Rebecca.
I Deacon Watson had longevity. He fought a goodfight. He finished his course and kept the Faith. Departing this life on Aug. 22, 2008.

Not how did he die? But how did he live. Not what did he gain?

I

But what did he give. These are the merits to measure the worth ofa man

as a man regardless ofbirth. Not what was his station, but has he a heart,

I

and how did he play his God-given part. Was he ever ready with a word of good cheer? To bring a smile, to banish a tear? Not what was his church?

Nor, what was his creed? But has he befriended those really in need? Not

I

what did the sketch in the newspaper say, but how many were sorry when

he passed away?

Please don't say that I gave up,

I

just say that I gave in Don't say I lost the battle,

for it was God's war to lose or win.

Please don't say how good I was,

but that I did my best.

Just say I tried to do what's right,

to give the most I could, not do less.

Please don't give me wings or halos,

that's for God to do.

I want no more than I deserve,

no extra's, just my due.

Please don't give me flowers,

or talk in harsh tones.

Don't be concerned about me now,

I'm well with God, I've made it home.

Don't talk about what could have been,

it's over and it's done.

Just see to all my family's needs,

the battle has been won.

When you draw a picture ofme

don't draw me as a saint,

I

I've done some good, I've done some wrong, so use all your paint,

Not just the bright and light tones,

I

use some gray and dark In fact, don't put me down on canvas

paint me in your heart.

I

Don'tjust remember all the good times, but remember all the bad.

For life is full ofmany things

some happy and some sad.

But ifyou must do something,

then I have one last request

Forgive me for the wrongs I've done

and with the love that's left,

Thank Godfor my soul's resting,

Thank Godfor I am blessed

Thank Godfor all who loved me

Praise God who loved me best.
