ANDREW JACKSON THOMAS
our beloved husband, brother and friend, fell asleep in death on Thursday, Januacy 8, 2015. Andrew was born in Bastrop, Texas on July 6, 1930 to the late Andrew Jackson Thomas and the late Leah Elizabeth Knox Thomas. The family moved to Oklahoma City in the mid-1930's.
Andrew, who was affectionately called "Jay" by his family, received his primary education in the Oklahoma City public school system. He then enlisted in the US Air Force and received an honorable 9ischarge after serving for two years. Andrew settled in Detroit, Michigan where he attended the Walsh College ofAccounting and Business Administration. Upon later moving to Atlanta, Andrew worked for the City ofAtlanta as a Corrections Officer in Accounting. Processes and programs he implemented were employed well after his retirement in 1994. Andrew later worked part-time as a bus driver for the Dekalb County School system.
Andrew dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on August 2, 1968 while living in Oklahoma City. The preaching and teaching of God's word were paramount to Andrew and he loved it! Andrew was versed in a variety ofsubjects. He would engage in discussions about sports, music, world events, science and history. Yet every conversation held the constant refrain ofJehovah's Kingdom and His creative power. Andrew enjoyed many privileges of service including serving as a pioneer and elder. He delivered talks on circuit assemblies, district conventions and participated in a bible drama. He also officiated over weddings for several couples. Andrew continued serving as elder upon relocating to Atlanta in 1981 and served for years as Secretary within Highland Congregation.
Andrew & Wheirmelda Ivey met at the Kingdom Hall in Oklahoma City and were married 4 months later on AprilS, 1971. Together they shared an eclectic mix ofWo's love of country music and Andrews's appetite for the Motown Sound. This harmonious marriage union continued for over 43years.

Andrew is survived by his devoted wife, Wo, loving sisters Florene Dennis (Nathaniel) and Jessie Johnson (Albert). Other siblings, Rufus Thomas, Randolph Thomas, and Amelia Ivory preceded him in death. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his spirtual son (Herb Joseph) and spiritual family that he loved dearly.
