On June 1, 1922, Jessie Evans was born in Newton County, Georgia to the late lYLr. & Mrs. Frank Palmer (Sally Mae
Belcher) Evans. She was raised by her father and step-mother, Mattie Louis Evans, both ofwhom preceded her in death.
Although growing up in Oxford, she attended school in Atlanta, including Washington High School. She joined .Rust Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age, and later moved her membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oxford, where she sang in the Senior Choir.
Jessie was united in Ho~v Matrimony to the late Mr. Charlie Wesley Jackson in 1942. He passed away on March 8, 1969. This union was blessed with eight children. Years later, she married Mr. Adam Strong in 1986.
She retired from Sweetheart Plastics after over 25 years of dedicated service. She volunteered her services at the hospital, where she prepared and provided meals for terminally ill patients. Jessie loved to cook, sew and make quilts. She had a wonderful sense ofhumor. She will be rememberedfor her warm and compassionate spirit. She departed this life on the morning ofJanuary 13, 2003.
She is survived by her husband: Mr. Adam Strong of Oxford; daughters: A1r. & Mrs. S. M (Marie) Norrington of Ellenwood, GA, Deacon Eugene & Rev. Leathia Jackson, Decatur, GA, Mr. & Mrs. Talib (Fareda) Abdul-Hakim, Saudi Arabia, Mr. & Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Gilstrap of Oxford, GA and Rev. & Mrs. W. R. (Annette) Starkes of Riverdale. GA; sons: Mr. &Mrs. Charlie (Sharron) Jackson ofCovington, GA, Mr. & Mrs. Marvin C. (Hilda) Jackson of Washington, DC and Mr. Daniel Jackson ofBuford, GA; god-daughter: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Height ofCovington, GA; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one sisterin-law: Mr. & Mrs. Tommy (Geneva) Harris of Covington, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
