Soror Mae Tea Stone January 10, 1951- January 15, 2011
Mae Tea Stone departed this life in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the age of 60. She was born January 10, 1951 and was the eldest child of Ella Wee and Robert L. Stone, Sr. of Lexington, Mississippi. She grew up and attended the public schools in Greenwood, Mississippi and was a 1968 graduate of Threadgill High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics from Alcorn State University at Lorman, Mississippi in 1972.
In 1982, she moved to Wilberforce, Ohio where she was the Director of the food service units at Wilberforce University and Central State University. While in Wilberforce, she was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Wilberforce Alumnae Chapter, April 4, 1989. Mae was the tallest initiate and served as President of the spring 1989 line, "Six to the Left".
She immediately became involved in chapter activities and programs. Mae was elected President in two short years after becoming a Delta and served from 1991-1992. She also served as the Undergraduate Advisor for Beta Chapter at Wilberforce University. Mae continued to bless the chapter with her talents, connections and skills until her death. She traveled to attend chapter functions whenever possible. She relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1992, but continued to be of assistance in any way she could to the chapter. She was a current member of the Wilberforce Alumnae Chapter.
Mae attended several national conventions and conferences over the years. She loved her sorority and her sorority sisters. Her spring line held a celebration of their 20 year anniversary as Deltas in April 2009. The circle of people who love her is full of numerous Deltas who will miss and cherish her memory forever.
The Delta girl is one who has been given the opportunity of education and broad development: she is one who has
enjoyed the privileges of culture and selected environment...It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self centered,
not desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory- but with a purpose which directs
her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else.
