The Obituary
Mrs. Hazel Stephens, affectionately known as the "Cake Lady", a native of Soperton, Truetlen County, Georgia, was born to the parentage of the late Clinton and Melissa Brown Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Stephens; her brothers, Theotis, Harvey, and Robert; and her sisters, Ella Mae and Annie Lois. Mrs. Stephens departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2008.
Mrs. Stephens was a former employee of F. W. Woolworth retiring after twenty years of service. She was also employed for over thirteen years as a Food Service Teacher with the State of Georgia at the Youth Development Center. She was a devoted member of New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty-years.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted son, Wallace 0. Stephens (Alexis); a devoted daughter, Kay B. Stephens; sisters, Adel Gillis, Ruthie Ashley, Rune// Smith, Sarah Smith all of Soperton, Georgia, and Cleo Matchen of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Dr. Torrance T. Stephens of Palmetto, Georgia and Jill S. Conners (Jesse) of Castaic, California; two greatgrandchildren, Thabiti and Chianti Stephens; devoted niece, Shirley Smith; goddaughter, Carolyn S. Killen (William); godbrother, Cue E. Walker and a host ofnieces, nephews, relatives, andfriends.
