MR. RODERICK WAYNE "GOLDIE" SMITH
On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, Roderick Wayne "Goldie" Smith stepped across the threshold into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, one that offers him eternal peace. Wayne was born on July 9, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Coy and Annie Crockett Smith. He was the youngest of seven children.
Wayne grew up in Atlanta's Edgewood and Pittsburgh communities. At a very young age, he was baptized at the Antioch East Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Curtis J. Jackson. Following his baptism, he became a faithful member of the youth choir, Baptist Training Union, and Sunday School.
Wayne received his education in the Atlanta Public Schools System attending Wesley Avenue Elementary and David T. Howard High School. Shortly after high school, Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Hughey. From this union, five beautiful children (two daughters and three sons) were born.
He began his career working at Lockheed Aircraft. After several years with Lockheed Aircraft, he started driving for Rogers Cab Company where he found his passion to drive. He obtained his CDL license and continued to pursue driving thus becoming a truck driver for various companies .... a career he truly loved for over 30 years. He drove tractor-trailers until his health failed him and he was no longer able to continue the job that he loved so much. His passion for driving did not stop him as he made his last delivery in September 2012 for Dan Martin Florist from where he retired.
In addition to his passion for driving trucks, he also had a passion for his NFL football team, Dallas Cowboys, and he was a true entertainer. He entertained everyone at all of the gatherings and where ever he was a guest.

At his last family gathering on Christmas day, Wayne had everyone laughing after being told he needed Castrol oil for his cold. Family gatherings will never be the same without Wayne.
Wayne leaves behind a devoted friend and caring companion, Barbara Warren. Wayne loved and treasured Barbara Ann for they shared many fun filled years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his three brothers, Coy (Vick), Robert and Rudyard (the twins) Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories two loving daughters, Kimberly Smith and Keisha Smith, three sons, Derrick Smith, Rodney Carlos Smith (Nadine), and Roderick Rashad Smith; twelve grandchildren, Jazmine Reynolds, Jaymes Reynolds, Jarvais Reynolds, Joshua Bunkley, Jaqavius Bunkley~ Kiera Smith, Jamall Smith, Christian Smith, Cameron O'Connor, Courtney O'Connor, Collin Smith, and Riyan Smith; two great-grandchildren, Ka'Dyn Bing, and Carter Smith, and four devoted sisters, Brenda Smith-Miller (Robert), Loretta Smith-Rhodes, E. Gayle Smith-Whitaker Barnett (Brady), and Challis L. McCoy, all of Atlanta, Georgia. Also, one sister-in-law Jacqueline Hughey, two brother-in-laws James Hughey Jr. and Calvin Hughey all of Atlanta, GA.
Wayne leaves behind his FAVORITE nieces, nephews, greatnieces, great-nephews and a .host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
Wayne truly loved and cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren he was their "PaPa". Wayne inspired the lives of so many relatives and friends and will forever remain a beacon of light in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.
Wayne's last words would always be "I Love You More."
