To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven ... Ecclesiastes 3: 1
Mr. Robert Thomas Smith was born June 6, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in the Pittsburgh Community. He was the third child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Smith.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School. Yes, at the age of sixteen, he entered and served in the United States Navy. After the military he attended Butchery School to become a master butcher. Thereafter, he united in matrimony to the late Dorothy Revills (Smith), and this union was blessed with one daughter, Sylvia M~e (Smith) Plas.
He accepted Christ at an early age, attending Southside Springfield Baptist Church. Later in life, Robert received the word of God from the Kingdom Hall.
During his young adult years, Robert moved his family to New York and later returned to Atlanta to take care of his mother Mamie. Upon his return, he established roots in the East Lake Community. He worked and retired from Our Lady of Assumptions as a head plant engineer. He was a Braves fan, documenting the homeruns of Hank Aaron, and a Falcon's fan as well. On any given day, you could find him in the kitchen, whipping up a delicious meal, while singing the Blues, or running back and forth from the kitchen to the living room watching a cowboy movie, as he called it. In his words, cooking and entertaining people were a recipe for a great time.
He made his transition from this life April 22, 2014 at Uni-Health Pac Nursing Home. Robert leaves to cherish his memory: a loving daughter and son - in law, Sylvia Mae (Smith) Plas and John Frank Plas; two grandchildren, Bryant Keith Plas and fiance Jennifer Rock, and LaTonya Monique Plas, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one brother; Roscoe Smith Jr.,(oldest sibling), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Siblings, Betty Smith Holt and Frank Smith preceded him in life's transition. Dewayne Smith and Phyllis Jones, siblings of Sylvia, were blessed to have been raised by Robert as well. Laura Johnson was a special friend of Robert's.

Postlude

To Those I Loved and Those Who Loved Me
When I'rn gone, release me, let me go. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears.
Be thankful for many happy years. I gave you all my love, you can only guess, How much you all gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown.
But now it's time I travel on alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you rnust.
Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a tin1e that we must part.
So, bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away for life goes on.
Though you ean't see or touch me, I'll be near And if you listen with your heart you'll hear And all my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must carne this way alone, I'll greet you with a sn1ile, and say
"WELCOME HOME!"

Do you remember, "It's Summertime and the Living is Easy? You taught us that an upbeat song and a good meal can soothe the soul. Do you remember, good-bye granddaddy, and you would say, see you later? You never said the word good-bye. You taught us that we will always see each other again. So, for
now, see you later. We are wishing you a happy voyage home. (Salute) Sylvia, Johnny, Bryant, and LaTonya

We are grateful to God for His grace and mercy. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your kind gestures of friendship, love, and sympathy
during our bereavement. Your visits, calls, and prayers have given us strength and inspiration. Your presence here with us is an indication that you too, share our sorrow. Your thoughtfulness, love, and prayers will always be remembered. The Famiy of Robert Thomas Smith
