OBITUARY
JohnS. Smith {Smitty) departed this life on December 5, 1997, at Akron General Medical Center, after a long illness. He was hom to Liza and the late Lloyd Smith in Belevedere, North Carolina, on January 30, 1933.
Smitty lived in Brooklyn, New York for 15 years before moving to Akron, Ohio, where he lived for 31 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of the American Legion Post #272. He was employed at the Babcock and Wilcox (McDennot) Company for 23 years before retiring in 1989 due to illness. Smitty accepted Christ at an early age in Belevedere, North Carolina; and later joined the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bell Smith.
Smitty was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Smith; his son, Terrance; and grandson, Derrick. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Patsy (Pat); son, Walter Thomas of Akron, Ohio; mother Liza and sister Dorothy of Brooklyn, New York; one grandson, Steven, of Columbus, Ohio; special friends Eddie and Jean Wilson of Brooklyn, New York; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends.
