Mr. David Barton Smith, Jr., the youngest of four children, was born to the late David and Clyde Smith on August 9, 1942 in Rockmart, Georgia.
David attended elementary and high school in Rockmart, Georgia, graduating from Elm Street High School in 1960. Later that year, he began his studies at Morris Brown College towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Taking a break from his studies, he entered the armed services (Army) in 1964. While there he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and received an honorable discharge in 1967.
David married Alma (Jean) Sherfield on January 4, 1966. To this union, two children were born: a daughter, Krysty Davina and a son Kyle David.
He was employed for several years with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Eastern Airlines, and the Smyrna Community Center, from which he retired in 2004. Always willing to go where the job took him in support of his family, David also spent a period of time in Miami, Florida when Eastern Airlines downsized from Atlanta.
Very active with his children and grandchildren's activities, David spent countless hours volunteering on baseball and football fields, basketball courts and recital halls.
A quiet spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand, David leaves cherished memories with all those whose lives he touched. He will be missed by his devoted wife of 43 years, Jean Smith; two daughters, Angie (Paul) Smith of Rockmart, Georgia and Krysty (Marquis) Sagnia of Canton, Michigan; son, Kyle David Smith of Smyrna, Georgia; three sisters, AnnaS. Johnson of Griffin, Georgia, RomaS. Bailey of Inkster, Michigan and Dorothy S. Pryor of Detroit, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Mary Newby and Geraldine Redwine ofAtlanta, Georgia, and Vivian Mangum of Cedartown, Georgia; one brother-in-law, George Sheppard, Sr., of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren and a host of loving and sp.ecial nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends, including The Garage Crew- Marion Christler, James Hudson, Cornell, Reggie Coffie, Lee, and Everett Flowers.
