Oh, Lord! I Was Loved. Mary Elizabeth Cantrell Slaton was hom June 15, 1940 to the late Roosevelt and Flora Cantrell of Fairburn, GA. She attended Fairburn Elementary and South Fulton High School where she began to explore the world of music by playing the violin in the school orchestra and singing in the chorus. Her love for music extended far beyond the school walls all the way to St. ~lark United Methodist Church where she was baptized ~~~~ and served as a faithful member. She played the piano and sang soprano with her high pitched voice. Mary was known for singing all kinds of music, especially church hymns.
Oh, Lord! Sharing the Love. ~lary married the late Willie Frank Slaton and to their union was born two children, Janniffer Gan) and Clinton (Clint). They moved to Atlanta where she transferred her membership to Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated and active member until her health declined. While in attendance she served several ministries and played for many choirs during her tenure, but her favorite choir was the Freddie G. Robinson Men's Choir. 1-fary was employed with the VA Hospital until her retirement after over 30 years of service. Although retired, she would always have a hand in taking care of others during their illnesses. You could always depend on Mary to be there!
Oh, Lord! Growing In Love. ~fary loved the Lord and devoted time out of every day to read her bible. When she wasn't reading she was drawing biblical scenes. She was a very strong woman with a contagious smile and a very keen sense of humor that would make others laugh while in her presence. During her life she enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, playing the piano with her grandchildren, and exploring every casino she could reach, even during her illness. Family was very important to her. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all those who called her Mama, Grand Mama, Grand-Grand, MC, Aunt Mary, or Liz the Diva.
Oh, Lord! Cherish the Love. Mary Elizabeth Slaton was a spiritual lady who praised and worshipped her heavenly father faithfully. She called on Him one fmal time, "Oh, Lord!, Oh, Lord!, Oh, Lord!" as she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on October 23, 2015 with her children by her side and soft music playing in the background. Oh, Lord! Here I AM! She leaves to mourn
