Life is a journey that we all must travel. And so began the life of Betty Watson Sharpe. The sunrise of her life on February 3, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the only child born to the late Nepoleon Simmons and the late Annie Kate Simmons.
Betty was a graduate of David T. Howard High School. Later, she was united in holy matrimony to Homer Lee Sharpe. To this union came eight children- four sons and four daughters. Betty was a dedicated employee for a number of years at The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) where she retired.
She dedicated her life to Christ and her loving family. She was unselfish, caring and would give anything she had to those in need. She served on the usher board at Silver Leaf Baptist Church and enjoyed her church family. Betty was also a big Atlanta Braves fan. Most of all she loved the Lord. In the last three months of her life, she accepted her illness saying, "It is what it is, I know God."
In the morning ofSaturday, May 17,2014, the sunset on this wonderful life and the Lord summoned her from labor to rest. She leaves to cherish her memory, eight children, Veronica Durden, Craig Sharpe, Cedric Sharpe (Gloria), Keith Sharpe, Latrice Sharpe, Tangela Sharpe-Coleman (Robby), Darryl Sharpe, and Regina Sharpe; two sisters-inlaw; one goddaughter, Gail George; one godson, Micheal Farris; twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, two great-greatgrandchildren; best friend from childhood, Ann Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, former co-workers, and friends.
God saw you were getting weary So He did what was best
He came and stood beside you And whispered, "Come and Rest."
You gave no one a last farewell, Not even a goodbye.
You were gone before we knew it and only God knows why.
God saw the roads were getting rough. The hills were hard to climb
He gently closed those loving eyes And whispered, "Peace Be Thine." The weary hours, the days ofpain
The sleepless nights are past. The ever striving worn out frame Has found "Sweet Rest At Last."
