In Remembrance
Dr. Lillie Mae Searcy, born June 8, 1936, was one of five children born to the union of the late Mr. Matthew McRae and Mrs. Jeddie Lee Steele McRae of McRae, Georgia. The Lord called home this great treasure on May 6, 2008. Lillie's early education began at Telefair County Elementary and Secondary Schools. Upon graduation, she attended Fort Valley State College where she received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Elementary Education with a minor in Music. Her teaching career began at her home in Telefair County. She continued to teach in Twiggs'"County and Bibb County before retiring in 1989. She later attended Covington Theological Seminary in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia where received her Doctorate in Ministry. . Lillie was united in Holy Matrimony on August 16, 1959 to the love of her life, Mr. Leonard Searcy. To this union, Leonard Searcy, II and Debra Karina Searcy were born. At an early age, she joined Corinth CME Church in McRae, GA and served faithfully. Upon relocating to Macon, she joined St. Paul AME Church and served as an active member of the Sunday School, Senior Choir, Stewardess Board, Missionary Board, and Christian Education Committee. She was called into the service of ministry as an evangelist and served well. Lillie was a member of the Ministers' Wives and Spouses of the AME Church, an active life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Omega Wives, and a life member of Fort Valley State University Alumni Association. Lillie's latest treasures were her beloved twin grandsons, Martin and Daniel Searcy. She was proud to tell anyone she met about them. Lillie leaves to celebrate her life: a loving and devoted husband, Leonard Searcy; one son, Leonard Searcy, II (Michelle) of Shawnee, Kansas; one daughter, Debra Karina Searcy of Sacramento, California; two grandsons, Martin Leonard Searcy and Daniel Leonard Searcy of Shawnee, Kansas; one sister, Ruth Benton of Willingboro, New Jersey; four brothers, Dr. Matthew McRae (Barbara) of Athens, Georgia, Dr. Freddie McRae (Inez) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Dr. Sylvester McRae (Rose) of Columbus, Georgia, and Dr. Keith McRae (Wanda) of Gainesville, Georgia; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
