A Life Celebrated Stephen Anthony Scott August 17, 1957-August 4,2000
"Steve" was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Mr. James William Scott, Sr., and Mrs. Catherine Thomas Scott. He was educated in the Dekalb County School System and attended Gordon High School where he was active in several organizations including the Youth for Christ ministries and the yearbook staff where he was editor. After graduating in 1975, Steve attended Morris Brown College and later relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. His gentle nature and caring spirit led him to work in the medical field where he brought solace and comfort to both children and the elderly.
At a young age, Steve gave his life to Christ and joined other family members at the Turner Monumental A.M.E. Church. He was and active part of the church prior to his relocation to Texas. This commitment to God and his desire to serve would later lead to his accepting a 'call' into the ministry under the guidance of Dr. B. L. McCormick, Pastor of Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Steve's caring nature and love for his family brought him back to Atlanta where he devoted much of his time to quiet study and family. After a valiant bout with Parkinson's Disease, Steve won the ultimate victory on Friday, August 4, 2000, when he transcended this life.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James W. Scott, Sr. and sister, Kimberly Lynn Scott. Those who will forever love and remember him are: a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Catherine Thomas Scott; sister, Ms. Carol Scott Harrell; brother, Mr. James W. Scott, Jr.; aunts, Mrs. Rosetta Smith, Mrs. Beulah (Ansley) Stewart, Mrs. Gloria (William) Jackson, Mrs. Maxine Stovall, Dr. Jean (Willie) Manning, Mrs. Dorothy (Thomas) Sheffield; great-aunts, Mrs. Essie Beadles and Mrs. Daisy Kelly: a very special nephew, Mr. Kennis Rashad (Cherice) Harrell, Sr.; Mrs. Georgia Crawford and family; Mrs. Vera Brown and family; other nephews, cousins, friends and family.
Life is Forever-- Death is a Dream
If we did not go to sleep at night
We'd never awaken to see the light And the job of watching a new day break Or meeting the dawn by some quiet lake
Would never be ours unless we slept While God and all his angels kept A vigil through this " little death" And death, too is a time of sleeping, For those who die are in God's keeping And there's a "sunrise for each soul For Ufe not Death is God's promised goal.
So trust God's promise and doubt Him Never For only through death can man live forever-
