Robert Saxby was born January 5, 1944, to Oliver and Almadeen Saxby, who preceded him in death.
He was a member of Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church from childhood and was once affiliated with the Male Choir.
Robert was a 1961 graduate of Tompkins High School. He attended Savannah State College for two years before joining the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War from December 29, 1964 until December 14, 1968. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Rifle Sharp-Shooter Shooting Badge. After his Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps, he again matriculated at Savannah State College and received a B.S. Degree in Sociology. He taught in the Bibb County and Chatham County School Systems.
On July 12, 1966, Robert Saxby and Bettye Ricks were united in holy matrimony. To this union four children were born: Vivi (who preceded them in death), Traci, Tarcia and Robert Jr.
Later, he married Gloriastine Worthen. There were no children in this union.
Robert Saxby, Sr. passed into eternal rest on June 27, 2001.
Sadly missed to cherish his memories are two daughters: Traci Drew of Nolanville, TX and Tarcia Gary of Macon, GA; three sons: Robert Saxby, Jr. of Fort Polk, LA, Derrick Jinks and Steven Worriels of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Elise Malone of Savannah, GA and Daisy McDowell of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Rev. Oliver Saxby, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; two sons-in-law: Captain Gary Drew of Nolanville, TX and Derrick Gary of Macon, GA; one daughter-in-law, Sherreco Saxby of Macon, GA; two brothers-in-law: Louis Malone of Savannah, GA and Dr. Ed 0. McDowell of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Elease Saxby of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends .
