The Earthly Journey of Reverend Ernest Robinson Reverend Ernest Robinson was born March 22, 1939, to elate Mr. Joel Amos Robinson and the late Mrs. Bessie Brantley Robinson in Savannah, Georgia. e was one of six (6) siblings. One brother, Willie Robinson, preceded him in death. Ernest acc~ted Christ at an early age, lie joined Tonsley African Methodist Episcopal Church. He attended Moses Jackson Moses Jackson Elementary School, To~J!pkins High School and Savannah State College. wher he graduated in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Social Science. Ernest was an activist during his young adult life. He was active}~ nvolved in the Civil Rights Movement where he worked with such otables, as the late Dr. Marf Luther King, Jr., Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Rep. John Lewis. He participated in various sit-ins and d monstrations; he was among the first youths to be arrested for seeking service at a "Whites Onl~" counter at Woolworth's on Broughton Street in Savannah, Georgia. After college, Ernest serve(l three (3) years in the United States Army fighting in the Korean Conflict; he was also in the U. S. Army Reserves. He was married to the love of his life, Miss Johnnie Mae Mack an to this union 3 children were born: Valerie Jean, Velma and Kenneth Robinson. Ernest was an active Sunday School participant. He served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent at his home church, Tonsley A. M. E. Church and after moving to Atlanta, he joined Turner Monumental African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he serv d as a Sunda~ School Teacher, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and he later became the Sunday School Superintendent. Ernest took the same spirit that he had during the Civil Ri~ts struggle with him when he put aside
. being a civil rights demonstrator and became a "Holy Warrior" accepting the call from Goa. Later
Reverend Ernest Robinson became an ordained minister and served as one of the associate ministers of Turner Monumental A. M. E. Church. At Turner, he served faithfully in whatever capacity he was asked to do. He continued his pattern of service with our present pastor, Rev. Haywood White, Jr. He enjoyed serving in a church where gracious and loving members surrounded him.
Reverend Robinson was an employee of the United States Postal Service at the Crown Road facility in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a dedicated employee and received numerous awards for his work ethics and attendance record. He retired from the Post Office with thirty-four (34) years of service.
Reverend Ernest Robinson will be remembered for his quiet, unassuming personality. His memories will remain in the hearts of hi s loved ones.
He is survived by his wife of forty (40) years, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Robinson, 3 children: Mrs. Valerie Jean Paul (Alfred, Jr.), Ms. Velma Robinson (Chris Ham12ton) and Kenneth Robinson; siblings: Mrs. Jessie R. Miller (Savannah, Ga.); Mr. Amos (Christine) Robinson (Jacksonville, Fl.); Mr. James Robinson (San Diego, Ca.) and Mrs. Annie LeeR. Bland (Savannah, Ga.); grandchildren: Valencia Cade, Timothy White, Jr. , Vanessa Robinson, Vincent Robinson, Kendall E. A. Hampton, Jordan M. Robinson, Sydney R. Hampton; 1 great-grandchild, Walter Cade; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
