LOVING MEMORIES

Obituary
It is often said that "the good die young." This expression is certainly true about Dennis Nelson Robinson, who died january 10, 2009 at the age of 55. Dennis was good-natured; Dennis was good-hearted. Dennis was a good soul. Dennis was also a good husband, a good son, a good brother and a good friend . Dennis was a laid-back person and a good person to talk to because he listened without taking sides or judging.
Dennis was born April14, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the younger of two children born to the late Minnie and john Robinson. When Dennis graduated from john Adams High School in 1972, he left Cleveland to attend the General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint, Michigan. Later, however, Dennis decided he wanted to attend historic Morehouse College in Atlanta where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting in 1976. Dennis returned to the Cleveland area in 1998.
Dennis' success in life can be measured not only by his goodness, but also by his work ethic. He was a good employee. For more than 17 years, Dennis worked as a controller at various companies where he was responsible for handling multi-million dollar budgets, leading teams of people and managing manufacturing processes that generated profits and demonstrated growth with companies from Atlanta to Milan, Tennessee. He ended his career with his last employer, St. Ives-USA, Inc. of Cleveland, a printing company
Dennis, who became a licensed CPA in 1983. In the private sector, he understood that work is a noble calling. He therefore excelled at financial planning, financial forecasting, financial statement publication, financial statement consolidations, cash management, financial analysis, budgeting and all other general accounting functions. Dennis was also an entrepreneur and a risk-taker. He owned three successful businesses while living in Atlanta, one of which was M & R Hollywood Video that he operated with his wife, Sandra.
Dennis was a good Christian. He was baptized as a youngster at St. james A.M.E. Church in Cleveland. His church memberships included: St. Paul C.M.E. Church in jackson, Tennessee; St. james A.M .E. Church in Cleveland; and Imani Temple Ministries in Cleveland.
Dennis had a genuine concern for people; he was honorable and honest, and was also patient. His quiet reverence, peaceful presence and gentle speech made him distinguished and a pleasure to be around. He walked and talked with distinction. He was respectful to others and expressed gratitude for the blessings he enjoyed in life.
One such blessing was Sandra, his wife and his best friend for 35 years. Dennis arrived in Atlanta to attend Morehouse College on Sandra's birthday and they met one week later, fated from the beginning to share their lives. They were wed on june 24, 1978. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband. Dennis and Sandra enjoyed traveling, especially to many of the Caribbean Islands. jamaica was their favorite for 15 anniversary vacations. Their travels also took them to Mexico, Paris, and London. On their 25th wedding anniversary, Dennis and Sandra renewed their vows in a romantic poolside ceremony in Las Vegas with family and friends.
Dennis enjoyed his home-life and was very fond of Meme, their toy poodle. He liked listening to jazz music and found excitement in driving sports cars, especially his 1994 Corvette. He found strength and consolation in his sister, Denise, and loved her spirit, her gusto and her zeal for life. Dennis enjoyed being an uncle and enriched his bond with his nephew, Shelton. Every Christmas and especially during Shelton's recent summer vacation in Ohio. Dennis was looking forward to being called "Poppa D" by the baby, his god-daughter, Sara, is expecting.
In sickness and in health, Sandra and Dennis remained one. The depth of their love was emphasized during the last year as Dennis and his unfailing life companion battled cancer. They gave that mortal enemy no power to cripple their love, shatter their hope; eat away their peace; destroy their confidence; kill their friendship; shut out their memories; silence their courage; reduce their eternal life; quench their spirits, or lessen the power of the Resurrection .
Dennis will be missed for his good spirit, his good sense, his good character and for his good looks.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sandra; his eternally dedicated sister, Denise Robinson of Shaker Heights; his father-in law, Sammie Lee Bonner, of College Park, GA; a sister-in-law, jennifer Bonner and a nephew, Shelton Bonner, of Stone Mountain, GA; a god-daughter, Sara Prince of Tyrone, GA; a cousin, Cassandra Robinson Hampton (who was raised as a sister) from Detroit, MI; and a host of other cousins, relatives and dear friends.
