The story began on November 22, 1949, when the late Mr. Robert Ross, and the late Mrs. Mildred Parker-Ross, welcomed their one and only baby girl, Arlane Onita Ross. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, she was one of four siblings, having been preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Louis, and her beloved gTandmother, Hattie Wagner.
Arlane received her primary education in the Dallas Public School System, graduating with Honors from Hamilton Park High School in 1968. Recognizing her desire to nurture and foster intellectual growth, she furthered her studies at the University of Houston, Kennesaw State University, and completed her education at the Vanguard School ofDesign.

heart. however, belonged to the young people
loved and served as the longtime leader ofCen youth group. She was a master teacher and senr. co-chair ofEvangelism and Christian education. e was affectionately known as "Ms. Central" by her husband and friends.
that Christ-like service went beyond the four walls of the church, Arlane served her community through her various anthropic endeavors as an advocate for youth and the arts. She was a Board member of Cool Girls, Inc. , a supporter of the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, a patron of the Alliance Theater, and True Colors Theatre. Her commitment to the success ofyoung people, led to her becoming a charter member, and ultimately, the Chair-Elect ofthe Atlanta Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees. Beyond her Board service, Arlane was a community servant through her volunteerism and support of many other charitable organizations, including the March of Dimes, American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Smithsonian National Museum ofAfrican Art.
Apart from her philanthropy, Arlane was also an astute businesswoman. She started her own interior design company, My Dwelling Place, birthed out ofher beliefthat the home is a sacred space for the development ofa strong family, but her most rewarding position was, as Ray says, being the "COO of my life!"
In the midst of her work and community service, Arlane found time to have a little fun: shopping, playing golf, skiing, bowling and cheering on her beloved Atlanta Hawks basketball team. She was even a member of a softball team that Ray coached.
au&, what she loved most was serving those whom she left
behind to cherish her memory: her husband of 4 7 years, Ray; daughter, Christy Rae~ son, Shane Marcus~ daughter-in-love, Tomikko~ gTand-daughters, Onye Myaat Crews, Alexis Shayne and Peyton Symone Robinson~ brothers, Earnest (Cynthia) , Ronald, and Larry~ mother-in-love, Wanda Robinson~ sister-in-love, Rhonda Robinson; brother-in-love, Manjuel (Vicki) Robinson ~ nieces , nephews, godchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

It was a delight to take you to see the play, Hamilton, on Broadway in New York City. I will treasure spending that special time with you, just the two of us forever and being your superman who came to your rescue. It was my job to protect you. You are such a huge part of my life and not having you here with me breaks my heart. I want to thank
you for being the wife that was perfect for me, blessing me with two beautiful children and for bringing out the best in me. Baby, we did things together that we never imagined. I know you are safe in the arms of God, now, so dance baby, laugh and continue to watch over us. We all need you! Never forget that Ray Loves Arlane, forev-
er.... 'Till we meet again.... your husband, Ray
I do not at all fmd it a coincidence that I'm using the title of one of Mom's most treasured (and certainly most sung) songs, in my efforts to articulate mom's impact on my life. "God Is" and "Mom Is" ... She has taken on so many forms of a loved one, as manifested by the number of names we have for her: Moms, Me-rna, Auntie Lane, Auney, Mommy-Lane, Mrs. Robinson, Laney, Arlin, etc... it's a testament to all that she touched.
As I watched her pass from this life, I said that she taught me how to love. 90% ofour tough conversations, had less to do with Shane, and more to do with how my actions impacted other people, i.e. co-workers, girlfriends, classmates, my spouse, daughters, sister, father, you name it. She taught me the valuable lesson ofalways trying to consider the other person before taking action -boy I needed to hear that, often.
She never allowed me to be angry too long. She would listen with an open heart and then very quickly re-direct me to a place offinding resolution. Mom did not believe in negativity...EVER!! ! I complained about not being able to play a good front 9 AND a good back 9-never both. She casually suggested I only play 9 holes. I told her that I wanted to leave Atlanta because I couldn't seem to find a steady relationship. She suggested that I try getting to know God better and perhaps I might have more success (footnot : I met my wife in bible study). I told her I hated my job. She told me to spend some time figuring out what really gives me satisfaction and then do something about it-not to mention the fact that the stuff I was complaining about would exist in any job! !
The list goes on and on...She's been a shield, a sponge, and often amirror, just allowing me to see what I'm doing... And I'm better for it. .. Mom, I thank you for always listening, and mo t importandy. I thank you for showing me time and time again, that the best way to find love is to unselfishly give it to someone else. And you have done that your whole life...
ow, you have left us all with the challenge ofcarrying that love through each other, and it's my prayer to honor you in that effort. I will always love you. Mom is Love.
...And, I saw you, as you carefully followed God's intricate plan - and in the midst, you gave me a gift - showing me, in real-time, as you took each step... Yes, your steps were ordered...
You shared with me a glimp e into the spiritual realm that sent chills through my body a proclamation of faith and a testament of divine will that could only be gTanted to faithful servants - it gave me a sense of knowing, without the shadow ofa doubt, that God was here -
You heard yom trumpet sound and you acknowledged the callAnd in that moment, you became the conductor ofyour own heavenly orchestraYou called people in, one-by-one, to support our family- yes, we were anchoredAt every turn and in every hallway there were pillars of supportAnd, there were even those who stood in on our behalfthat perhaps had no knowledge oftheir powerful role Through your spirit you opened doors - spat words out ofyour mouth, through the actions ofothers -
You called us into the war room, your place of refuge, your altar and sacred space And, hundreds ofsouls gathered and showed up to your call- God's call... You petitioned the power prayer as a witness to your transition, while you studied war no more You studied war no more, for your steps were ordered...
And, I see clearly now, the magnitude of this human, yet spiritual existence, the beauty that beholds the soul and the awareness that God is real- I will be on the lookout for how you continue to show up and forever hold you in my heart, knowing that your steps were ordered...
