Mrs. Theresa Davis ("TO") Roberts, the second of two children, was born August 25, 1916 to the late Reverend Henry and Mary Davis of Davisville, Alabama. Mrs. Roberts had one brother, James Davis, who preceded her in death. She was married to the late Reverend Grady A. Roberts, Sr. for 60 years. To this union was born one son, Grady Alexander, Jr.
Mrs. Roberts was a devout Christian who worked diligently in theA.M.E. Church supporting her husband until his retirement in 1994. She later joined Allen Temple A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Ministers' Wives and Widows Alliance. After moving to Decatur, Georgia, she joined Turner Monumental A.M.E. Church, where she was an active member of the Women's Missionary Society until 2006.
Growing up in Atlanta, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1935. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Morris Brown College in 1952, and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Atlanta University in 1969.
Mrs. Roberts spent over forty years teaching and shaping the lives of students. She taught at Clayton County's W. A. Fountain High School for many years where she had numerous leadership responsibilities. One of her many honors was being selected as "Teacher of the Year'' in Clayton County for her effectiveness as a leader. She taught in the City Schools of Decatur for thirteen years before retiring. After her official retirement, she continued teaching for another twenty years as a substitute teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools. In addition to being an excellent educator, Mrs. Roberts was a very successful salesperson in the retail business.
Mrs. Roberts was affiliated with many civic, social, and professional organizations, including the Criteria Club (where she served as secretary for six and one half years), the Florida Avenue Community Club, and the Roselia Community Club.
While maintaining a busy work schedule, Mrs. Roberts found time to travel extensively. She traveled in Canada, several islands in the Caribbean, and most of the United States of America.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by one son, Grady A. Roberts, Jr. (Myrna); grandsons, Grady A. Roberts, Ill (Sandra) and James Robinson, Ill (Kia); great-grandsons, Grady A. Roberts, IV and Jay Robinson, IV; great-granddaughters, Ali and Robi Roberts and Cori and Jaymi Robinson; special friend, Charles Bazen; a faithful and loving caregiver, Frances M. Roberts; brothers-in-law, Ira Roberts of Shellman, Georgia and Elijah Roberts (Lillian) of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters-inlaw, Ottive Roberts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gladys Roberts of Phoenix, Arizona, Marie Roberts, Virginia Roberts, and Louise M. Davis of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
