Lucy Ellen Elise Hogue Roberts, 76, of 502 South Park Street, Gaffney, South Carolina, answered The Master 's call on March 9, 2001 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The eldest daughter of the late Lewis and Bernice Jefferies Hogue, she was born on November 1, 1924, in Cherokee County, South Carolina.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to William B . " Sarge" Roberts, and to this union three daughters were born. Two of her children, Peggy Ann Roberts (7/83) and Maxine Carrol Roberts Ragin (11/98) preceded her in death.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior and joined Mulberry Chapel Methodist Church. She later became a member of Dunton United Methodist Church, where she served as a faithful and active member with the Methodist Women until her health declined.
A graduate of Granard High School, she attended South Carolina State College majoring in economics.
Mrs. Roberts was well known in the community as a homemaker, substitute school teacher, seamstress, and artist. Many clinets and friends all over the United States have her handcrafted articles in their homes.
Left to cherish loving memories are: her husband, William B. "Sarge" Roberts; one daughter, Cassandra J. Roberts; one sister, Dorothy Hogue Brown; two aunts, Geneva Polhemus and Mattie Jefferies; a son-in-law, Henry Ragin; sister-in-law, Niecy Fowler Roberts; the loves of her life, two grandsons, Anthony NaShawn Brown and Yancy Kenan Ragin; one god-granddaughter, Dominique Angela King; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends .
