WILLIAM REID was born on April 20, 1955 to the late Mr. Elijah and Mildred Reid in Atlanta, Georgia. He was proud to say he was a 'Grady Baby'. His parents ensured he was introduced to religion and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his life at the St. Stephens AME Church in Scottsdale, Georgia and later joined Turner Monumental AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
William attended J. C. Murphy High School in Atlanta. He was a member of the 1973 graduating class. He enjoyed fishing, football, traveling, laughing, watching TV, old Motown music and most of all spending time with family and friends. He worked hard with various companies - Magbee Bro. Lumber Company, Intown Hardware, West Lumber Company, Dekalb Water and Sewer, Leed's Lumber Company, Triple H. Pipeline and GAT, until his health declined.
On April 4, 1994, William united in holy matrimony with Sandra Childs. This union was blessed with one child.
William's memory will forever be cherished in the lives of his children, William Reid, Jr., Patrice Stephens and Miranda Reid; two grandchildren, Aniyah and Kamyah Reid; one very devoted sister, Eula Miller; four brothers, Elijah (Sarah) Reid, Terry (Sherry) Reid, Calvin (Adrian) Reid, and Ray (Johnnie) Reid; two brothers-in-law, Otis (Louise) Childs and William Walls; sister-in-law, Cherry Childs; father-in-law, Deacon Mathew Childs; special nephew, Jerrold Miller; special niece, Millette Miller-Woods, all of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who made his life so enjoyable.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Mildred Reid; sister, Mildred Walls, and brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Gwen Reid.
William departed this life early morning on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Sandra, Patrice and Miranda were blessed to be in his presence as he departed to start his new journey with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:6-8, /(Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord (For we walk by faith, not by sight). We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absentfrom the body, and to be present with the Lord."
