Mrs. Mildred Williams-Reid, the youngest of sixteen children, was born on October 31, 1920 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia to the late Peter and Narciss Williams.
She received her education through the Putnam County School System. As a young woman, she joined the New Hope A.M.E. Church in Putnam County, where she served as the secretary of the Sunday School, secretary of the Church and delegate to many conferences and conventions. In Eatonton, she was a model citizen who helped any and everyone, both Black and White.
She was united in holy matrimony on November 9, 1941 to Mr. Elijah Reid, Jr., and to this union, seven children were born: Mildred Lucille, Marvin Lee, Elijah Ill, Eula Mae, Terry Carl, William, and Calvin Lewis.
After moving to Atlanta in 1954, she moved her membership to St. Stephen A.M.E. Church, Scottdale, Georgia, where she served faithfully for thirty-five years. She served as secretary of the Sunday School, president of the Missionary Board, chaplin of the East District Missionary Board and a stewardess. She worked diligently and faithfully in any area needed.
Affectionately known as 11 Mini, 11 she was a mother to many neighborhood children and also helped raise three of her grandchildren, Horace (Ray), Millette (Lette) and Jerrold.
In 1990, she moved her membership to Turner Monumental A.M.E. Church of Atlanta, Georgia. One month into her member, she suffered a stroke and was unable to serve as she had but always kept the church in her heart.
On May 28, 1996, she left for her home in glory and leaves wonderful memories to her loving and devoted husband of fifty-four years, Mr. Elijah Reid, Jr., seven devoted children, Mr. and Mrs. Williams J. Walls (Lucille), Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Reid (Gwen), Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Reid Ill (Sarah), Ms. Eula Reid-Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Terry C. Reid (Sherry), Mr. and Mrs. William Reid (Sandra), and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin L. Reid, Sr. (Adrian); a grandson she raised as her own, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Reid (Johnnie) and nineteen other devoted grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ms. Carrie Mae Bland, Eatonton, Georgia, Mrs. Eppie Waller, Mrs. Annie B. Turner, and Mrs. Beatrice Williams, all of Macon, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mattie Lou Williams, Eatonton, Georgia and Mrs. Margaret Aikens, Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
