Mr. Elijah Reid, Jr. was born January 21, 1921 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia to the late Elijah Sr. and Dennie Montgomery Reid. He received his education in the Putnam County School System.
He joined the Crossroad AME Church at an early age. He later moved his membership to the New Hope AME Church Eatonton, Georgia. After moving to Atlanta in 1946, he connected with St. Stephens AME Church, Scottdale, Georgia where he served as Steward, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and Church Care Taker. In 1990, he moved his membership to Turner Monumental AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia where he served as a Steward until his health failed and was unable to serve.
He united in holy matrimony on November 9, 1941 to Mildred Williams who preceded him in death. To this union, seven children were born. His eldest daughter Mildred "Cille" Walls also preceded him in death.
As a young man, he had his own business and helped many people. He was a hard worker and passed those values on to his children. He was affectionately known as "Mutt", "Murk", "Pop", and "Big Pa" until his death. He was known to his family as "Buddy". He had many "God" children and helped raise three grandchildren: Ray, Lette, and Jerrold.
On July 9, 2002, he was called by the Lord to come home and rest. He leaves wonderful and cherished memories to his loving children: Marvin Reid (Gwen), Elijah Reid (Sara), Eula Reid-Miller, Terry Reid (Sherry), William Reid (Sandra), Calvin L. Reid, Sr. (Adrian), Horace Ray Reid (Johnnie); sonin-law, William J. Walls; a devoted friend Ms. Janie Moore; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great- grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
