"For they that have served in the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good Slanaln.,J. great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. "

&~ ~ ~{P}Pu.~~en, ~. was a devout man who loved God, his church,
his family, and friends. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 12, 1921 to the late James and Esther Lee (Starr) Pullen. His early childhood was spent in Henry County, Georgia with his grandparents, Willie and Dehlia Starr who nurtured his faith and trust in the Lord.
As a young man, he accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and deacon. He met and married the love of his life, Olivia Brown, on January 8, 1945. To their union were born four children: Angelique, Willie Jr., Augustine and Crawford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, his two sons and a brother, Shelton Handspike.
He had a strong work ethic. For over 30 years, he was employed as a shipping clerk at the Lederle Drug Company, a division of the American Cyanamid Pharmaceutical Company. He also held many part time jobs to take care of his family. He believed in the importance of education. At the age of forty-six he returned to high school and proudly received his high school diploma in 1967 from the Samuel H. Archer High School Night School.
The love of Christ, and for Christ, was the main-spring of his life. He was a member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church for over twenty-five years. He faithfully served as a Deacon, Co-chair of the food bank and Chair of the Benevolent Ministry. He led the church with patience and wisdom as the well respected chairman of the Deacons' Ministry for over ten years. As a Christ-like example he won untold men and women to Christ in his quiet, unassuming way. At the time of his death he was Chair emeritus and Vice Chairman of the Deacons ' Ministry.

Don't think of him as gone away His journey's just begun, Life holds so many facets This earth is only one. Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness Can really pass away.
And think of him as living In the hearts of those he touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost And he was loved so much.
,....,E. Brenneman,....,
Naked I camefrom my mother 's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name ofthe LORD be praised.
Job 1:21

When I come to the end ofthe road and the sun sets for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul setfree? Miss me a little, but not too long
and not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared,
miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we must all take and each must go alone, Its all a part ofthe Masters Plan,
a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart,
go to the friends we know, bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me, but let me go
