"Happy the Man"
Happy the man who wanders with the Lord, Happy the man who knows how to live, Happy the man who never seeks reward, Giving because he loves to give. He seeks no gold, He wants no gain, He knows those things are all in vain. He needs no praise nor honor too.
His only motto: "To your own self be true."
Happy the man who learned how to pray, Happy the man who has a burning goal, Happy the man whose service needs no pay,
This man has found his own soul. Happy the man, Happy the man, of the Lord.

NOT - "How did he die?" BUT - "How did he live?" NOT - "What did he
gain?" BUT - "What did he give?" These are the units to measure the worth of
a person, regardless of birth. NOT - "What was his station?" BUT - "Did he have a heart?" And... "How did he plot his God-given part?" "Was he ever
ready with a word of good cheer, to bring back a smile, to banish a tear?"
NOT- "What was his church?" NOR - "What was his creed?" BUT - "Had
he befriended those really in need?" NOT - "What did the sketch in the newspaper say?" BUT - "How many were sorry when he passed away?"

October 23, 1942:

January 12, 2003:

Let There Be Life.

Thy Will Be Done.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, not standeth

in the way of sinners, nor sitteth zn the seat of the scornful." Psalm 1 :1

Our earthly loss was heaven's gain on Sunday, January 12, 2003, when Elder James Paul Prichett was called home following a courageous battle with illness and while in Redmond Regional Hospital. Elder Pritchett was a vibrant, enthusiastic man with a great zeal for life. The essence of his year of joyous living was his love for his family, friends, co-workers, and most of all God. We realize that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.
Born October 23, 1942, in Kingston, Georgia, (Bartow County), he was the son of the late Mr. Soloman Pritchett, and Mrs. Hattie Barton Pritchett.
Elder Pritchett's primary education began in Kingston, and he was a 1963 graduate from Summer Hill School in Cartersville.
Product from a Christian environment, at a young age he became acquainted with the Lord and united with Queen Chapel A.M.E. Church. After moving to Rome, Georgia (Floyd County), he transferred his membership to Christ Temple Holiness Church, under the leadership of Bishop Gurthie, where he continued to exemplify the love of God through worship and praise.
Elder Pritchett was employed in earlier years at Lockheed, and for twenty years he was employed with Rome City Fire Department. He was a kind, reliable employee. His co-worker and friends shared a mutual admiration and respect for him.
Elder Pritchett was a lover of the out-of-doors. When time permitted he was led to many waters and areas to hunt, fish, boating, cooking, involved with football, guns, and was so comical, always telling funny jokes, keeping his family and friends in stitches.
In earlier years his goal was to become a tiller of the soil, and was a skilled wine maker. Elder Pritchett traveled to many cities, accompanied by his loving sister. His life was filled with many encounters and experiences.
Elder Pritchett was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Ms. Melanie Ann Pritchett, and Ms. Norma Jean Pritchett. Those who now survive and lament his homegoing are his two devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Mr. Kevin (Barbara) Pritchett of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mr. Donnell Pritchett of Canton, Georgia, goddaughter, Ms. McKenzie of Rome, Georgia; nine grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; one sister, Ms. Jodie Pritchett of College Park, Georgia; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Misters John (Clara) Passley of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald (Charlene) Passley of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Calvin Pritchett of Rome, O' Dell (Roxie) Pritchett, and Tony (Marchelle) Pritchett of Kingston, Georgia, two other sisters-in-law, Mrs. Yvonne Pritchett, and Mrs. Melvia Pritchett of Warner Robbins, Georgia; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
