Wilma Preston, the fourth of five daughters, was born in
Americus, Georgia on February 18, 1948 to the late Rev. Daniel Thomas and Mrs. Pearl Thomas. She departed this life on March 27,2014.
Wilma was educated in the public school system of Americus and Sumter County. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's degree. She worked for a number of years with the Federal Government.
She joined Elizabeth Baptist Church immediately upon her move to Atlanta, where she became a faithful member for over 40 years. She served on the Hospitality Ministry, the Golden Years Ministry and in the Sanctuary Choir until her death.
Wilma was a person who loved people. She enjoyed traveling and attending class and family reunions. Her favorite pastime was keeping in constant touch family and friends by way of telephone and computer.
Wilma was married to Larry Preston. This union was blessed with one son, Donald Preston.
Wilma leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Larry Preston of Atlanta, Georgia; her son, Donald Preston of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Fleta Smith (Benjamin) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rev. Dr. Diana Glenn of McDonough, Georgia, Bernice Turner (Rev. Dr. Willie) of Mableton, Georgia and Joanne Wilson (John) of Columbus, Georgia; one aunt, Barbara Ferrell (John) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one uncle, Bennie Thomas (Naomie) of Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
