I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to 1ne only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
I'-ve done my work, I've sung my song I've done some good and I've done some wrong.
Now I must go where I belong
The Lord has willed it so.
Marshall Powell, Sr., the oldest of three sons born to the union of Willie Mae Powell and the late JohnS. Powell, entered this world July 12, 1933 in Alexander City, Alabama. Known as Pluke to his family members, he could always be counted on for protection, encouragement and dependability. Marshall loved his family and would do anything in the world for them. He would constantly talk about the morals and values that his mother and father taught him while he was growing up. He was very proud of his upbringing and was very supportive of his brothers John Hayes and Eddie Louis. As a young man, Marshall attended the public schools of Rockford County, Alabama. Later in his life, he worked for Plantation Pipeline, a gas and oil company, that often allowed him to travel throughout the Southeastern United States. On one of his many travels, he found himself in Woodbury, Georgia where he met his soul mate, Carrie Lou Sutton. They united in holy matrimony November 19, 1966. With this union came five beautiful children, that Marshall loved as his own: Jeffery Louis Sutton (Sherin), Talbotton, Georgia; Reginald Sutton, Philidelphia, Pennsylvania; Cheryl Denise Brown (Larry), Manchester, Georgia; Roderick Bernard Sutton (Holly), Hampton, Georgia and Christopher Wade Sutton (Sonya), Darby, Pennsylvania. He also held his mother-in-law, Bobbie Lee Cunnigan of Chicago, Illinois in high esteem. Knowing that life is not forever, he professed Christ as his savior and joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Thornhill. Foots, as he became known in Woodbury, constantly bragged on the athletic ability, intellectual capacity and beauty of his children. He was always at basketball games supporting them in their efforts and would sing their praises throughout the streets. In time, he and Carrie produced seven more children that made the set a perfect 12. The first of his angels was Lafay Lashun Gamble, Manchester, Georgia; Angelika Lindsey (Cedric), Locust Grove, Georgia; Ronald Aundra Powell, Overbrook Pennsylvania; Michael Powell, Atlanta, Georgia; Marshall Powell, Jr. (Shaisty), Woodbury, Georgia; Tavaras Tyrone Powell (India), Manchester, Georgia and Marcus Dynell Powell, Atlanta, Georgia. Foots was blessed with 28 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren who he loved boasting and bragging about. No one was better than his children and grandchildren and he cherished the memories he created with them. Anyone who knew Foots KNEW that he loved his wife, all 12 of his children and he loved life. He lived a full, complete life. Never was there a dull moment. He would often say "The world doesn't owe me nothing." Throughout his life, he made many acquaintance7 and friends that he held dear to his heart. Among them are the late Hector J. Gamble, one of his favorite son-in-laws; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Johnson Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Hardnett; sisters and brothers-in-law Gloria Sutton, Carolyn Sutton, Willie Carl Sutton, and Gregory Sutton and a stepdaughter he loved, Linda Mathis. There are several others too numerous to name that he loved talking too, "cutting up with", and enjoying life with. Foots J. Edgar Hoover Pig, Pluke, Marshall, Daddy will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew him; but _one thing we know is that he lived his life with NO REGRETS. He will be missed.

BROTHER TO BROTHER
A TRIBUTE
Being with my brother's children a few days past, helped me mourn his passing in God's way. I see the love he imparted. It is the same love that we shared as brothers, only deeper.
As a brother, "Pluke" was a person I could go to when I needed to share a secret. I was his "little" brother that he would carry on his back. He pr ~ected me from bullies. He took care of me.
This is what he did for his children. He cared and protected his own. I mourn his passing, but will continue to celebrate his life. God's got "his back covered" now, and I rejoice as I mourn. Rest in peace, my brother.
Love, 1ohn Hayes Powell

CHILDREN TO FATHER
Our father was who he was, nothing more, nothing less. He wanted nothing but the absolute BEST for us. He related to each of us in a different way; but nonetheless, he loved ALL of us completely. We will miss his witty remarks, distinctive laugh and cunning smile. You will always be loved.
