Mrs. Jeannette C. Pounds was born in the Chapel Hill area of Douglas County, Georgia on December 20, 1942. She was the youngest of eight children born to the late Walter C. and Odessa Long Cox. Jeannette departed her earthly life and entered into eternity on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Mrs. Louvola Pritchett, Mrs. Flora Mae Dansby, Mrs. Christine C. Pounds, Ms. Gerlene Cox and one brother, Mr. Albert Cox.
Jeannette's Christian journey began at a young age at Tranquil A.M.E. Church in Douglasville, Georgia. As an adult, she became a strong pillar of the church and served in various leadership roles. Later, in 1995, she became a member of Ben Hill United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia where she served faithfully singing in the Sanctuary Choir.
She was educated in the Douglas County School system where she graduated from R.L. Cousins, class of 1960. She was employed by the United State Postal Service; retiring after 36 years of service.
~!!!I!!II~~~~Jeannette was joined in Holy Matrimony Pounds on November 24, 1962. To this blessed union were born two beautiful children, Cleve Fitzgerald and Carolyn Jeannette. She was a dedicated and loving mother, sister, and friend. Her care extended beyond her immediate family as she
embraced those who were in need.
Jeannette leaves to celebrate her life and to cherish her precious memories: her loving husband of 49 years, Albernis Pounds; son, Cleve (Angelia) Pounds; daughter, Carolyn (Rod) White; four granddaughters, Adriana, Trinity, Jasmin and Hailey; five grandsons, Rodnick, Jr., Joshua, Chasten, Nigel and J aylen; one sister, Leola (Isaiah) Tidwell and one brother, Willie D. Cox and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin family and friends.
Though she has transitioned into Heaven, she will never be forgotten. Jeannette Pounds, known for her red lipstick, leather outfits and jazzy outlook on life, her place within our hearts can only continue
grow. She will be missed!
