Obituary
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend. Edward Potts was born the third of six children to the late Corrie and Josephine Potts on October 24, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia. Reared in the Pittsburgh Community, Edward attended Atlanta Public Schools and worshiped as a member of Ariel Bowen United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.G. Newton. His father was an entrepreneur and Edward worked beside his brothers in the family business as a painter. This was a profession that he continued to enjoy throughout his life. Edward attended Washington High School where he met his future wife, the late Lessie Hudson Potts.
After graduating high school, Edward joined the Navy in July of 1943 at the age of 19. During his stint in the Navy he served o~ Motor Torpedo Boat Squad 9 and earned several commendations. He and Lessie continually exchanged letters as he traveled abroad with the Navy, until he was honorably discharged on January 28, 1946. On November 1, 1946, Edward and Lessie were joined in holy matrimony. From this union two lovely daughters were born, Sharon Francine and the late Deborah Ann.
Edward's career as a postal worker began on April 16, 1948 and served diligently until his retirement on November 2, 1979. He subsequently enjoyed 25 years retirement after the end of his career. Shortly after his wife made her transition in 1985, Edward changed his membership to Ben Hill United Methodist Church, where both daughters were active members. He remained an avid Braves fan and enjoyed every moment of family gatherings. Relocating to the Bethel Village Community, he continued to experience a high qualicy life style socializing with his peers and watching old westerns. After the death of his daughter Deborah, Edward's health quickly began to decline. In his final months, he received excellent care at the Summerset Assisted Living Home for Seniors. Fifteen minutes prior to departing from this Life, he rededicated his life to Christ.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-nine years, Lessie Frances Potts, his wonderfully caring daughter Deborah (Mark) Mosley and brother Stansfield Potts. He leaves so many loved ones with his memories: A dedicated and loving daughter and son-in-law Sharon Potts Benjamin and Bobby Benjamin; six Grandchildren, Travis Benjamin (Kim), Corry Withers, Damon Benjamin, Erica Withers, Tennielle Benjamin Bailey (Ronald), and Tawana Farley; eleven Great-Grandchildren, Chris Scott, Kennedy Benjamin, Corry Antwan Withers, Chance Scott, Brandon Brown, Brooke Aspen Benjamin, Benjamin Bailey, B.
