_ Frcm his parents, h l~arned the great ethical principles of Jesus which served as guide-lines for his life. When he made Atlanta his home, he was drawn to the P~ovidence Baptist -Church by his good
friend, Reverenf Walter R. McCall, a college mate who later became the pastor of that church.

In the spri~g of 1955, Spurgeon ~~s united in
holy rnatrimony to. the then Miss Fletchere Hill. Having no children born t o this union, he set out to be a blessing to ~c~ntlefis numbers of children through t eaching in public scnools. Consequently, he became a teacher in the E. P. Joh~s on and the English Avenue Atlanta s~h::>ols. Later, he-became a principal of a public school in Twin City, Ga., and from there became prin~ipal of the Henry Street School, Savannah, Georgia.
In his brief span of thirty seven years of
existence, he was active in many civic anr social
organizations: TheY. M. c. A., N.A.A..C.I., and the
Alpha Fhi lupha Fraternity.

Spurgeon leaves to mourn his iemise, a loyal and devoted wife, a loving mother, three brothers and two sisters, many r elatives and friends.
