Pastor & Eulogist
Mr. Embry "EM" Phelps was born on January 24, 1927 in Henry County, Georgia to the late Mr. Lucius and Mrs. Mamie Sloan Phelps. He peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on March 17, 2006.
Embry attended school in the Henry County District. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Embry worked for Clayton County Water Works and Piedmont Airlines. During which time he also did farming and gardening for many, many years until his health begin to decline. Embry married the former Ms. Dorothy Mae "Dot" Stroud on September 13, 1952. To this union eight children were born with one preceding him in death.
Mr. Phelps leaves to cherish his memories: a loving devoted wife of fifty-three years, Mrs. Dorothy Mae Phelps; seven children, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Phelps (Eleanor), Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Phelps (Linda), Mr. and Mrs. Harold Irving (Beverly), Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Phelps (Pattie), Miss Detrice Phelps, Mrs. Robin Phelps Hollis, and Mr. James Paul Phelps; fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one brother, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Lee Phelps (Mattie); five sisters, Mrs. Isabell Lewis, Mrs. Carrie Sue Turnipseed, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Hunter (Mattie), Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gainey (Ruth), and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jackson (Annie Lena); in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Duffey (Annie Grace), Mr. and Mrs. Billy Stroud (Alberta), Ms. Delores Bell, and Mrs. Opal Lee Phelps; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A precious one from us has gone A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our hearts Which never can be filled.
He will not be forgotten Though on earth he is no more.
