OBITUARY
Bar'Y Petty was born on October 17, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the second of four children born to Thomas Leon Petty and Thelma Elaine Petty. Bar'Y attended public schools in Brooklyn. In 1971, his parents moved their family to West Hempstead, New York on Long Island. In June of 1974, he graduated from Malverne High School and BOCES Technical school. Bar'Y was a skilled Off-Set Printer, a profession which he was employed for many years.
In the summer of 1978, Bar'Y decided to leave New York and move to Atlanta, Georgia. It was here that he met and married the love of his life Sonya Junae Owens in 1982.
From this union came their son Hahns Cranston Petty. Bar'Y had a special bond with him and valued his education.
Bar'Y was fond of his family with a kind spirit and a forgiving heart. He loved watching movies, eating seafood, and talking about his spiritual beliefs. Growing up in the Disco-era, BaCJ:Y also loved listening to and talked about the music, dancing and the cars of that time. He could recall memories of his childhood and youthful exploits with such precise accuracy, right down to the smallest details. He made you feel as if you were there. On Saturday, April29, 2013, BaCJ:Y fell asleep in death after fighting a long battle with cancer. He leaves his loving and cherished memories to Sonya J. Owens (best-friend and ex-wife), Hahns Petty (son), two brothers Jeffe'Y Petty (Denise) and Craig Petty (Malgorzata), one sister, Jill White (Randy), six nieces, one nephew, four great-nephews, two great nieces and a host of family and friends.
