OBITUARY
Mrs. Macie Zackery Perdue entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 7, 2008. Mrs. Perdue was born August 15, 1926 in Newton County, Covington, Georgia, to the late Ellen Roberts Veal and the late Alton Zackery. Her devoted step-father was the late William C. Veal. She graduated from the Newton County Public Schools. She graduated from Savannah State College (now Savannah State University) with a B.S. degree in 1949 and from Mercer University with a M.Ed. degree in 1972. She completed additional graduate studies at Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) and the University of Georgia.
Mrs. Perdue was an outstanding elementary school teacher in the Newton County Public Schools and in the Bibb County Public Schools. She established a scholarship for students in the fifth grade who aspire to become educators in urban schools. The Macie Z. Perdue Future Educator Scholarship is awarded annually to fifth grade students at BurdenHunt Elementary School (formerly M.M. Burdell Elementary School) in the Fort Hill Community of Bibb County, as well as at S.L. Lewis Elementary School in Fulton County and at the Evoline C. West Elementary School in Fulton County, where she touched the lives of countless young people. For a number of years, this scholarship has been awarded to qualified students with high academic achievement, outstanding leadership, exceptional service, and strong character who possess the desire to become a future educator.
Mrs. Perdue was united in marriage to Washington Pierce Perdue, Sr. and to this union three children were born. Mrs. Perdue leaves to cherish her memory, three loving and devoted children, Anita Perdue Ross, Dr. Vickie Perdue Scott (Chico V., Sr.) and Washington Pierce Perdue, Jr.; three granddaughters, Ciera Victoria Scott, Chelsie Variel Scott, Allison Renee Ross; two grandsons, Benjamin Charles Ross, Jr. and Chico V. Scott, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Carlotta Jane Perdue (Nathaniel, Sr.) and Clara Perdue (Dennis, Sr.); three wonderful caregivers, Mrs. Doris Harvard, Ms. LaShonda Bond and Mrs. Rosa Chambers; the staff of Heartland Hospice; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The Lord was the builder and center of her life, her family, her marriage, and friends.
