BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
In Stroud, Oklahoma, a wonderful baby girl was born on May 30, 1911 to the late Joseph and Martha Adkins Napier. She was an only child, and they named her "Myrtle Lee".
Myrtle was educated in the public schools of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She received her B.S. and M.S. Degrees from Tuskegee Institute, i.e. University. Additional training was accomplished at Northwestern University, the University of Minnesota, San Francisco State University, and Florida State University.
Early years of employment included the Georgia Farm Security Agency during World War II and the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. Later years of employment included teaching in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia. She retired from the Georgia Academy for the Blind as Supervisor of Instruction in 1972. Myrtle was a very demanding teacher with high expectations from her many devoted students.
From childhood she was active in the Methodist Church. She led mission studies for a conference, and was instrumental in establishing a pictorial directory for Holsey Temple CME Church.
Over the years Myrtle was very active in her community. She made sure that everyone was informed of births, deaths, and marriages, illnesses and changes in the neighborhood as well as the community at large. She was very "BIG" on baking cakes, pies, and other goodies for her "children".
Early in her retirement she was active with Toastmistress International, Queen Ester Chapter #15 of the Eastern Stars and Venus Court #70 of the Heralds of Jericho.
Late Wednesday evening, November 12, 2003, Myrtle was called home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Dr. Antoinette Mann Dobson; grandson, Devlin, and greatgrandson, Hayden.
She will be missed by relatives and friends - one friend especially, Mrs. Hazel Hackett of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She and Myrtle were college roommates and close friends since second grade.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mrs. Leona Bonner Walton, Mrs. Pearlie Dixon, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McMichael and Sons.
