Rev. Richard D. Wtnn, Officiating The Life of James E. Oglesby
James Oglesby was born on April 19, 1939, in Yatesville, Georgia. He was the eldest son of the late Annie Ruth Bradford and the brother of Robert Oglesby. He was inducted in the United States Army in 1963 and completed his service with an honorable discharge in 1964. After serving his country, he returned to Georgia and completed two years of vocational school, which led to his career with General Motors.
He became a father to Jarrell in 1968 and was joined in matrimonial union to Sharon Bearden, his loving wife on August 15, 1970. To their union, they were blessed with a son, Christopher and a daughter, Velda.
James enjoyed the cotnpany of family and friends throughout his 74 ye~rs '"'f lif:. He . 'US bJ.E_,;:u tv thu ~e he spent 11is childh d ar.d early adulthood with as Buster," a nickname bestowed to him by his mother. He was a robust and boisterous man who made sure all recognized his presence, whether through a billowing voice or song of purpose as he entered the room. But then came the melting of his heart with the birth of his first grandchild, leading to another wonderful chapter of life with five more glorious grandchildren to come.
Through many trials and medical challenges of life, James would make his seventy-fourth birthday his last as he passed on into the comforts of the Lord. He only told his grandson this secret, "When I die, it will be on a Happy Day." Preceding his death were mother Annie Ruth Bradford; brother "Bobbie' Robert Oglesby; wife Sharon Oglesby, son-in-law Rasheed Wasi and daughter-in-law Wendy Smith-Oglesby.
He leaves behind son and daughter-in-law Christopher & Kassandra Oglesby daughter, Velda Oglesby; son, Jarrell Miller; grandchildren Kennedy Kayla Xavier Noah Robert and Paige cousin, Mary Talton; in-laws G Ioria Pearson and Richard Bearden and many nieces and nephews of the Bearden family.
