late Ms. Louise Cotton in LaGrange. Georgia. In her early childhood years they moved to Atlanta. along with her Grandmother Mattie Cotton. Her mother met and married Mr. Marvin Prior who became the only father she knew. She continued her secondary education in Atlanta and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
After graduation. she was severely wounded by a stray bullet. After the doctor's prognosis. she became a witness to the power of God as He delivered her from the hands of death. Her prognosis was that she would never walk again or bear children. Thankfully. God said NOT SO. She survived. participated in her Debutant Ball. walked to the Late Advanced Presiding Elder
Odom as they were united in Holy Matrimony on August zznct 1947. She was affectionately known
as "Puddin" by her husband of 64 years. She united with The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob on April 6th. 1958 in
Atlanta. Georgia and remained firmly rooted there until she was called from labor to reward. She loved the gospel and was blessed to travel as a missionary with Bishop W.B. Scott (Father W.B. Israel S.O.T). other executives and officials. Mother Odom was ordained to the ministry and motherhood and served as Assistant Pastoress of Atlanta Georgia. All who knew her will attest that you were not going to be in her presence long before she would turn the conversation to her church and the goodness of God. Mother Odom was also known for welcoming the missionaries. family. and friends into her home.
Mother Odom marched for Civil Rights and was hired by Davison's Department Store. She was the first African-American Sales Associate promoted to wear the distinction of the white flower." Her career continued at].C. Penney. where she became the highest volume sales associate in their fine jewelry department. She became known as the "Diamond Lady" for her significant sales volume. She retired from her sales position to care for her grandchildren and many adopted grandchildren in her home.
Mother Odom could always be found praying and thanking God for His bountiful blessings. She loved to sing "Lord I Thank You All The Days of My Life". Near and dear to her heart was always "FAMILY" both natural and spiritual. She was honored by DeKalb County with a proclamation on March 6th. 1999 for her strong presence and dedication to her family and community. Mother Odom was loved and will truly be missed by all that knew her.
Surviving in the warmth of her love and cherishing her memories are her children. Mother Cheryl L. Odom. Mr. Gary C. Odom. Mother Sanford Yarbrough (Elder Walter). Sup. Mother Joycelyn P. McCoy; six grandchildren. Elder Gary B. Yarbrough (Sis. Renay). Sis D. Nicole Worsham (Bro. Timothy). Bro. Anthony J. McCoy. Sis Shanteria R. Wright. Sis. Ronderika L. Bryant. Mr. John Thomas Jr.; two great-grandchildren. Sis. Alexandria Nicole and Bro. Timothy Jordan Worsham; two brother-in-laws. Steve Odom. Calvin Odom (Mary); two sister-in-laws. Narvel Williams. E. Elaine Rivers; a loving caregiver. Mrs. Lopedia Hardwick; and a host of nephews. nieces. cousins and lifelong friends.
