james E. Moore, Jr. was born August 5 , 1929 to the Christian linage of the late James and Geneva Moore. When he was born he had three loving sisters who welcomed him in to the family and the world. James later gained four more
sisters and a brother as the family size increased. Four of his sisters (Frankie , Jeannette, Lillian and Alfreda) and his bro ther (Richard) preceded him in death.
james was educated in The Chicago Public School System at John D. Shoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High School. As a youngster James enjoyed roller skating and traveled to several states participating in skating meets with a group from the Savoy Skating Rink where he was also employed.
Attending Sunday School , Junior Church and B. T. U. at Beth Eden prepared James to accept Christ at an early age. He was baptized by the late Rev. Richard C. Keller. As a member of Beth Eden , James sang with the Wooten Choral Ensemble and he served as a Junior Usher. During his <!dult life he became a member of the Deacon Board and served as a deacon for more than 45 years; serving as their chairman for one term. James accepted and did any task asked of him by the board. He faithfully provided Seniors and handicapped individuals with a ride to church . He served as the deacon for the Matrons fo r a number of years. James was willing to and did lend a helping hand to many of the auxiliaries of the church. James was instrumental in Securing the original painting on the rear wall of the sanctuary in memory of his father, the late James E. Moore , Sr. James had a deep, deep love for Beth Eden. Nearly. all of his conversations while in the nursing home were about Beth Eden.
james wa~ united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Bailey in 1968. Through this union he gained three daughters and a son. He later became grandfather to eight grandchqdren and two great grandchi l dren. James and B.arbara were married for 31 years befo.re Barbara's death in 1999 .
james employment included working for Michael Reese Hospital, The Chicago Park District and The Chicago Board of Eduction where he worked until his retirement.
james was initiated into The Order of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge#52 sometime between 1950-1959 and also served as Worshipful Master of Prince Hall Lodge#52 and served as their secretary for many years. He served as Grand Marshall for the Prince Hall Masonic Parade numerous times. He was also initiated into The Order Of Eastern Star during the same time period. He served as Worthy Patron of Guiding Star#73 O.E.S. for several years. He also was initiated into the Shriners.
james was a member of the Beth Eden Seniors On The Go. He really enjoyed going to the baseball games with them and also the Christmas party.
After a brief illness , 0 n Friday, October 7 , 2011 at 4:5 0 P.M. James went home to be with the Lord.
Memories of him will be cherished forever by his sisters: Elnora Martin, Christie Porter and Sylvia Roberts (Tommie); his children: Marcia (Charles), Joyce (Ralph) Linda (preceded him in death) and John (Terry) ; his grandchildren: Kyle , Bradley, Dena , Nia , Shani , Everett , Ryon an d Jeremiah; great grandchildren: Karter and Kellan; a host of nieces, nephews , cousins other relatives and friends and a loving and dear friend May J. McBride.
