-- His Life & Legacy --
Sylvester Moody was born February 22, 1934 to Leila Hutchinson Jordan and Jackson B. Heflin. His mother later married his step-dad Walter B. Moody and was blessed with nine additional children.
Sylvester joined the military (Army) at a young age as a career veteran and involved in the Korean War. He was awarded numerous medals, commendations and awards until his honorable discharge and retirement from Civil Service. After retirem~nt, he served as a dental lab technician and barber. He was also a Master Mason initiated into the Amos T. Hall Military Lodge of France in August of 1966.
Sylvester, a persistent, purposeful, focused, hard working, creative and disciplined man of class and high standards received the salvation of the Lord during his adult life. He was the head chairman of the usher board at his church home Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia. A very loyal man or great wisdom that did what he said he would do.
He met and married Carrie Z. Dukes Moody in 1957 and they remained married for 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leeila Jordan Moody; father, J.D. Heflin; and stepfather, Walter M. Moody.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: Carrie Z. Dukes Moody; six children, Sylvester Dobbs "Jr.", Margaret Laverne Bryant, Jacqueline Moody, Deanna Elaine Moody, Karen-Brandee Delores Moody and Jermel Moody; five sisters, Dorothy G. Farris, Ezell Moody, Emma M. Moody, Ida M. Harris-Springer and Velma J. Moody; four brothers, J. D. Moody, Oscar Moody, Harvey Lewis Moody and Hershel Sims Moody; step-mother, Louise Heflin; one step-brother, Eugene Heflin; eight brothers-in-law, eleven sisters-inlaw, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
All in all, Sylvester Moody has lived a very fruitful and blessed life, in spite of hardships, trials and his battle with Alzheimer's Dementia & B-Cell Non Hopkins Lymphoma Cancer, which ended on October 25, 2004 at Our Lady of Perpetual Home Care in Atlanta. Georgia.
