New Oak Grove Cemetery Please join the family in the Fellowship Hall,
Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church immediately following the interment.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a

time to stones, time to

kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away

and a time to gather stones: a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a

tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time ofwar, and a time of peace.

-Ecclesiates 3:1-8

A TIME TO BE BORN: Mrs. Marian Bartlett Mitchell was born in Elizabeth
City, North Carolina on October 27, 1940 to the union of Sarah Reece Bartlett and the late Paxton Bartlett.
A TIME TO LOVE: She spread love to her son, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She encouraged and showered love upon her family, her church family, friends, co-workers, the alumni, smurs and anyone she met
A TIME TO LEARN: Marian attended Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, Elizabeth City State University and Norfolk State University. In 1970, she received the Bachelor Degree in Business Education from ECSU, and between 1977 and 1980, continued further studies in Mass Communications at Norfolk State University
A TIME TO SERVE: As a child, she joined Cornerstone Missionary Baptist church under the pastorate of Rev. J. R. R. McRay. Johnson Singers, the Black Movement Gospel Singers, the North Carolina State Employees Association, the National Association of University Women, the Order of Eastern Star, the Matrons Society Literary and Art Club and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Prior to her graduation from ECSU, she was hired as. Secretary to the Vice Chancellor for Development and Planning where she served for seven years. In 1976, she was promoted to Director of Alumni Relations , later renamed Alumni Affairs, where she served faithfully until her health failed. During her tenure, she served as an active member of the Founders Day Committee, the Campus NAACP, the Pre Alumni Association, the Lyceum Committee, the Honors Committee, the Career Awareness Committee, the University Gospel Choir, the Recruitment Task Force Committee and the Scholarcade Committee. A TIME TO LAUGH: Marian had a unique sense of humor. Her friends were often amused when she became sleepy. She would lie down on the nearest couch, fully dressed, mink coat, gloves, hat, boots, scarf and make-up galore. When her nap was finished, she would jump up and say, "Girl, I didn't mean to sleep that long; what time is it?"

A TIME TO GATHER STONES: She was always busy working unselfishly for the many organizations and charities that she loved. She was honored in 1971 as Secretary of the Year; in 1972 as Miss Blue and White; in 1975 as Miss Mardi Gras for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; in 1978 and 1979 for Outstanding Service Awards from alumni chapters; in 1980 for Outstanding Service from the NC Alumni and Friends, Merit Award from the Atlanta Metro Chapter and the Outstanding Service Award from the Evelyn A. higher education.
A TIME FOR PEACE: Marian led a full and happy life. She was healthy and full of life until her health no longer permitted. She never gave up and sought the comfort of the Lord. Many nights she prayed for continued strength and guidance and listened to gospel music until she drifted off to sleep. She maintained a positive attitude until God called her to her new home on Thursday evening, September 17, 1998 at 9:35p.m.
