Mr. David Lizell Mells, son of the late Joseph H. Mells and Etta Sutton Melis, was born November 3, 1915. During his early childhood, he grew up in Rush Memorial A.M. E. Church.
He was educated in the Atlanta public schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1936, and continued his studies at Morehouse College and graduated in 1940. He entered the workforce in the Atlanta area. He changed his membership to Friendship Baptist Church where he served and loved. Music was his passion, and he was always involved in musical activities around the city.
He served and held various offices in different organizations and was devoted to his church.
Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory
are cousin, Katie L. Benton; a devoted friend, Mrs. Bernice
Connally; and a host of other relatives and extended family.
Dear Heavenly Father. You are the God of both the living and the dead.
Death has removed in a moment what see1ned so permanent. Indeed we are strangers and sojourners on the land, travelers and pilgrims passing through the earth.
The length of our lives is as uncertain as the morning fog. Seventy years are given us and some may even live to eighty. But even the best of these years are often emptiness and pain.
How frail is man, how few his days. He blossoms for a moment like a flower- and withers; as the shadow ofa passing cloud, he quickly disappears, gone so soon from us.
Never again will we see our beloved David in this world. But Lord you are the Redeemer of our lives and we know that after his body has decayed that his body shall see God.
Thank you Father for giving us such a glorious hope, the hope of immortality beyond the grave provided for us in Christ Jesus.
