PRESTON LOUIS MCMORRIS (Chef Preston)
Preston louis McMorris, age 53, was called to cater a gourmet dinner in heaven on Friday, August 4, 2012.
Preston, the youngest son of Bennie G. McMorris, Sr. (deceased) and lillie louise Reed McMorris was born August 18, 1958, in Asheville, NC.
Preston received his introduction to cooking when his mother enrolled him in "Kitchen Helpers" at the YWCA in Asheville, when he was only six years old. He later became a cook at the Woolworth's Store where he started perfecting different ways to make a Hamburger Supreme. He graduated from Asheville High School and attended Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia, where he majored in Hotel Management. Atlanta became his home and Preston cooked at every major hotel in Atlanta, getting his start at the Pleasant Peasant Restaurant, then in downtown Atlanta, where he continued to master his craft.
If we are lucky and special, we get to experience heaven here on earth. Preston was special. He experienced heaven every time he was in a kitchen preparing food. Preston loved to cook for others; but most importantly, he wanted to make sure all enjoyed his cooking. If you were lucky enough to taste his cooking, you experienced a slice of Preston's heaven.
Preston never met a stranger and he left a lasting impression every where he visited. Preston, the son, the brother, the nephew, the cousin, and the friend, you were special to all of us and you will be remembered.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. lillie Louise Reed McMorris; siblings: Bennie G. McMorris, Jr. (Jerry), Revonda McMorris (Re'), Bernard G. McMorris (Cynthia), and Benita G. McMorris; Shannon A. McMorris, niece, and Gregory McMorris, nephew; Mr. leon Reed, Jr. (uncle), Philadelphia, PA; Elder and Mother Wallace E. Justice (aunt and uncle) of Asheville, NC; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
