Someone said, "You've got to reach through the thorns to touch a rose." The last few years of Mrs. Evelyn B. McLaughlin's life presented thorns of illness , pain, and disability. But on Tuesday evening , October 25 , 1988 at the West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Ga. God called and in peace and quiet, Mrs. McLaughlin answered.
Mrs. Evelyn B. McLaughlin was born to the late Ms. Gillie Hodges in Meriwether County, Georgia on July 31 , 1900.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Roy McLaughlin . To this
union one son was born, who preceded her in death. Mrs. McLaughlin taught in the Meriwether County Public School
System for many years until she retired. She was a member of the Golden Age Club and the Meriwether Retired Teacher's Association.
At an early age she joined the White Plain United Methodist Church . She was dedicated, faithful , and a dependable member. She served as Sunday School teacher of the Senior Class for many years, a member of the Administrative Board , President of Communion Steward Board , President of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Hospitality Committee. She often prepared food and provided housing for visiting ministers for many years . She was a delegate to the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years . She loved her church and was always willing to do her part. Her answer was , "Here Am I,
Send Me ." Other affiliations includes St. Lithian Court No . 170, where she serv-
ed as Matron ; The Freeman's Aid Society No . 3, as Ward Leader No . 1, U.B.A. Society, as Secretary; Heroines of Jericho , Grantville District No. 9, as Secretary; and the St. Mark Community Clubs .
She leaves to mourn her passing: husband , Mr . Roy McLaughlin ; son , Mr . Jimmy McLaughlin, St. Mark Community; two grandchildren, New York; two grandchildren, Greenville , Ga.; three great grandchildren , New York; two devoted and beloved dear nieces, Mrs . Mattie Mae Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Agnes Colton, St. Mark Community; one sister , Ms. Alicestene Robinson, Birmingham , AI. ; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Claudia McLaughlin, Hogansville, Ga.; Mrs. Adeline Ector, LaGrange , Ga.; one brother-in-law, Mr . John 0. McLaughlin , nieces, nephews, and a host
of relatives and friends.
Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning at the bar
When I put out to sea.
