August 6, 1939 was a happy day in the Childers home; a beautiful baby girl, Gwendolyn was born to Louis and Lila Childers. Gwen departed this life on March 13, 2011, and went home to live with her Heavenly Father.
Gwendolyn accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age when she was baptized at Southern Baptist Church at the age of seven. Gwen came from a line of strong, independent, self-reliant women and there was never any doubt that she would be successful in life.
Gwen gave tirelessly to her community and was a faithful member of Southern Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Trip Ministry, Paul Timothy Ministry, Rose of Sharon, Deaconess, Celestial and Senior Choir, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for the Children's Department, Women's Group and Decorating Committee. Gwen began her employment as a dispatcher for the 5th Street Cab Stand. She retired from General Motors and Polymark. Before her long illness, she became a member of the Winton Hills Community Presbyterian Church.
In departing this life, Gwen leaves to mourn her passing: two daughters, Deborah Satterwhite and Paulette Martin; three sons, Frank (Patricia) Martin, Terrance Martin, Wesley (Daphane) Martin and Alan B. Childers (deceased); one brother, Louis (Patricia) Childers; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one niece and one nephew, four aunts and one uncle, and a host of cousins, other relatives and loving friends. She will be missed and her memories forever cherished.

I Am Always With You
When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourselfto me with too many tears, But be thankful we had so many good years. I gave you my love, and you can only guess, How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown, but now it is time I traveled alone.
So grieve for me a while, ifyou must. Then, let your griefbe comforted by trust.
That it is only for a while that we must part, So, treasure the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away for life goes on. And ifyou need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near,
And ifyou listen with your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear. And then when you come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home." - Emily Dickinson
