RENA MARTIN was born May 23, 1906, in Drew, Mississippi, to the union of Mr. and Mrs. William Franklin. She was one of five children born to this union. She departed this life on Monday, January 11, 1988, at Oak Forest Hospital.
She attended school in the State of Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Laden Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Scribble.
Rena was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Willie Martin, also a native of Mississippi. They moved to Chicago in the early forties.
She became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Harvey. She served in many organizations in the church - Good Samaritan Club, Missionary Society, Lizzie Washington Circle and Church Sunday School. Rena loved her church. She loved the first lady of Antioch, Mrs. Marguerite Daniel, and her lovely pastor, Rev. W.N. Daniel.
She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Carrie (Dayton, Ohio); cousin, William Murray; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends, and one very dear friend, Mrs. Ethel Williams.
There is an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone. And there, in a light we cannot see, Our Father claims His own. Beyond the gate, your loved one finds Happiness and rest. And there is comfort in the thought That a loving God knows best.
