' .born to Willie Martin and Lizzie Watson Martin. Richard received his

education in the Atlanta Public Schools system and graduated as an

outstanding athlete from L. J. Price High School in 1956. He proudly

served his country in the United States Navy from which he was

honorably discharged.

Richard was always kindhearted, but stern. He was a man of his word, who had a big heart and a great sense a humor. Over the years, he worked tirelessly at General Motors, Lakewood for fifteen years. He retired in 1978. Sometimes, affectionately called, "Veinhead", he enjoyed traveling, professional sports and having a goodtime.

On Tuesday,. March 1, 2005, Richard departed this life. He was preceded in.,oeath by his father, Willie Martin; his sister, Carolyn Martin Riley and his brothers, Willard and Lorenzo.

Richard leaves to cherish his life and memories a devoted and loving mother, Mrs. Lizzie Martin; sons, Edward Richard Martin, Jr. and Wendell Betner; daughter, Wanda Wells (Joseph); a loving brother, Dexter Renard (Frances) Martin; a loving "sister" niece, Ms. Willene Bailey all of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Ms. Lethia Martin of Fayetteville, NC; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
