~-Bee~~~ enjoyed creating beautiful flower beds in her yard and in the yards of her siblings, friends, and neighbors - a testimony to her loving spirit. She spent most of her life giving to others and caring for others. She was born to the union of the late Mr. Mason and Mrs. Dorothy Ray (Pickens) Edwards on July 10, 1947 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi. Bertha was the eldest child of twelve.
In 1964, Bertha graduated from the Eva Hall Harris High School in Brookhaven, MS. Afterwards, she immediately moved to Atlanta, GA and was soon employed by the US Postal Service where she worked for thirty-six (36) years and 10 months. She retired on December 30, 2002.
During her quiet time, "Bert", as she was so affectionately called by the family and close friends, enjoyed going to the movies and watching TV. She was also an avid sports fan. She loved her family and especially adored spending time with her nephew, Nicholas Herron.
Bertha was an original member of Atlanta's Church of All Nations, now Grace Church for All Nations. She loved Pastor Paul Bellino and her church family. She was always serving and giving. She always remembered everyone's birthday in the church. She also contributed personally to the Bibles For Prisoners Ministry and served with the Women In The Church. She was a praying woman who loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bertha made her transition from this life on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Macon Medical Center in Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in her homegoing, respectively by her loving son, Quincy Alexander; her brother Ronnie Earl Edwards and her sister Vernon Ray Edwards Knight.
Bertha leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Deron L. Edwards of Decatur, GA; her siblings: James Clifton Edwards (Atlanta, GA); Lanell Edwards Jordan (Abbeville, SC); Irene Edwards (Sweetwater, TN); Mafred Edwards; Lamar (Angela) Edwards, both of Bogue Chitto, MS; Douglas (Katherine) Edwards of Summit, MS; Carolyn Edwards Herron (Hampton, GA); Martha A. Edwards and Dereck C. Edwards (Decatur, GA).
In addition to her son, sisters and brothers, Bertha is survived by her godmother, Sylvia Kelly of Athens, AL, whom she loved dearly and her soulmate and devoted friend, Willie Hamm, of Hampton, GA.
Bertha is also survived by her nephews and nieces: Roger Mason (Nedra) Jordan (Lithonia, GA), Steve (Adrienne) Jordan (Covington, GA), Cedric Mason Edwards (Covington, GA), James Clifton Edwards, Jr. (Atlanta, GA), Tracy Lawanda Edwards Irving (Houston, TX), Drexter (Whitney) Adair (Bogue Chitto, MS), Nicholas L. Herron (Hampton, GA), Marcus R.G . Herron (Hampton, GA), Jeremy Edwards (Summit, MS), Tracy Richardson and Ronnie Edwards, both of Bogue Chitto, MS; her Aunt, Minister Mary E. Pickens (Fernwood, MS) and a host of cousins and friends.
