Our beloved, Agnes Berrutha Perry Mapp, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the age of 71. Her mission here is done. She received a call, a sort of an offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing with family, cooking, baking and fishing to her heart's content. She left detailed instructions for her husband and children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated. Her 'tell it like it is' attitude was not to be tested.
Agnes' journey began on Aprill7, 1944, to Joe Will Perry and Gertrude Colton Perry in Meriwether County, GA. As the youngest girl of 12 children, her sisters all say she was the "good girl". She left us with many memories, including those of delicious coconut cakes.
It was one of her sisters that introduced her to Willie James Mapp. On the day he met her he said, "I'm going to marry her. She's going to be
my wife." And that is exactly what happened on June 3, 1972. From day one and through their forty-three years of marriage, they were a team. A team many family and friends looked to for guidance. Agnes was always there with an open heart and wisdom. Sunday dinners with her family was more than just something to do, it was one of her greatest joys. Spending time with her family was her priority and her mission. After she married Willie Mapp, she joined Forest Chapel Baptist Church. As a faithful member of Forest Chapel Baptist Church she served on the Usher Board and sang in the church choir. Agnes leaves a very large family to remember her and carry on her mission. Her husband, Willie Mapp; four children: Debra (Kenny) Willis, Brenda Mapp, Michael Mapp, and Anthony (Arneida) Mapp; seven grandchildren: Dexter Mapp, Angela (Benjamin) Hann, Kenyan (Jennifer) Willis, Niecha Willis, Brandi Culbreath, Jasmine Culbreath and Kylon Dixon, 10 greatgrandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Four of her siblings; Girlee Travis, Cora Haynes, Shirley Forts and MacArthur Perry; her sister in law Johnnie Bailey and her brother in law Gregory (Marsennia) Haynes and her 21 nieces and nephews will ensure the next generation remembers her guidance. Agnes, Aunt Ag, Ma, Auntie, Grandma, everyone in your life has so much love and respect for you. That is testament to the type of family you helped to raise. Thank You. Now bake your cakes and catch your fish.
Be at peace. We love you Agnes.
