Robert Leonard Mahone was born April 8, 1929 in Woodbury, Georgia to Dock and Rosa Mahone and his race in life began. Robert was nicknamed Peter as a little boy which later became Pete to many. He was a graduate of Carver Vocational High School. He also served proudly in the United States Army during the I<orean War from 1950-1953.
In 1957, he raced into the life of Rosalind Thomas and they ran their race together for fifty-four years of marriage. He worked hard to become a good husband and father of two. In 2011, Rosalind crossed the finish line and went to be with the Lord but Pete knew his race was not over.
Robert had a wonderful career at The Center for Disease Control that expanded almost three decades. He received awards, accommodations, and accolades for his many dedicated years working in the audiovisual department. CDC even gave him a retirement luncheon that was att~nded by more than 100 people.
In 1982, Pete realized there was one more race to run, and he chose to run for God's Team. Led by team captain Jesus Christ, he devoted himself to serving God and God took a good man and made a great man. He joined Green Pastures Ministries under Pastor Collette Gumby; where he also served as a Deacon. Pete's desire to serve brought about numerous relationships which afforded him opportunities to impact hundreds of lives at church and the community. He later joined I<elly Lake Church Of God In Christ led by Bishop Norman 0. Harper. Pete carried the same commitment and integrity to I<elly Lake that he had established throughout life. In recent months he joined the Men's Chorus to sing praises to God with the silk baritone voice he was so blessed with.
Whether you knew him as Robert, Peter, Pete, Mr. Pete, Uncle Peter, or Deacon Mahone, we were all blessed to know such a great man that left a wonderful legacy. Pete ran his race with grace, and finished his course with excellence.
He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Eric (Etta) and Rudene; his sister, Nettie Foxworth; four grandchildren, John, Ebony, Ariel, and Antruan; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
