IN MEMORIAM OF DR. J. W. E. LINDER
Dr. Linder fell victim to an acute apoplectic stroke while enroute home from a Bigger and Better Business Program on which he had been the final sneaker. From this affliction he did not rally and left us four days later (April 28, 1939).
Dr. Linder was of cne of the first families of Georgia, being the son of the late Congressman George W. Linder, of the Georgia House of Representatives during the Reconstruction Period. At the time of his death he was a member of the E xecutive Board of the National Medical A ssociation , a trustee of Morris Brown College , Chairman of the Steward Board of Big Bethel A. M. E. Church, Chairman of the official Atlanta delegation to the 1940 African Methodist Episcopal General Conference in Detroit, Mich., General Chairman of the 1939 Citizens' Committee of the N ational Negro Health Week Carnpaign, and a goodwill envoy to the forthcomin g pageant in Jackson, Miss., which commemorates "Seventy-five Years of Prog r ess" by the Negro, having been appointed to this position by Gov-ernor E. D. Rivers, Chid Executive of the State of Georgia.
Dr. Linder was t he co-found er and fi r~t President of the Lambda Sigma (Graduate) Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma F rat ernity a nd w a s the guidin g light in this Chapter until his death. He was Chairman of the official delegation to the 1938 Con cla\ e of t~e P hi Beta Sigma Fraternity held in Winston-Salem , N. C.
He enjoyed a very lucrat iv e m edical practice in the Cit y of Atlanta for over 30 years. He was an ex -President of the Atlanta Medica l Association and the Georgia State Medical Association . He was loved by all who knew him. H e was known f or his int egrity, his loyalty, and his aggressiveness. His influence will long be felt fo r his Progressive Prog rams- not only in the fieid of medicine, but in every phase of lffe which vitally concern s our r a ce.
